Laure Prouvost (born in 1978 in Croix, France) is a contemporary artist renowned for her captivating installations and videos. She weaves together humour, poetry, and surreal elements to tell immersive narratives. Fascinated by language and communication, Prouvost explores the relationship between words and their visual interpretation.
Through stories that blur the boundaries between reality and fantasy, and with enigmatic and sensory imagery, she seeks to tap into a spectrum of emotions and (physical) sensations that are difficult to express in individual words or concepts. She typically does so through large-scale installations, where sculptures, tapestries, paintings, collages, and videos intertwine and almost fluidly merge into one another.
In 2013, Prouvost won the prestigious Turner Prize for Wantee, an installation presenting a fictional family story. In 2019, she represented France at the Venice Biennale. She lives and works between Antwerp and London.
Ammodo has supported Laure Prouvost’s work through projects at Kunstinstituut Melly, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and the Van Abbemuseum.
