The influence of director Pierre Audi (1957) on contemporary opera is profound. With more than eighty productions to his name, he has brought a distinctive, innovative and adventurous vision to existing works.

Born in Beirut, Audi began his artistic career in Oxford and London before moving to Amsterdam in 1988, where he led De National Opera for thirty years. From 2005 to 2014, he also served as director of the Holland Festival. Since 2019, he has been the director of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.

Audi has dedicated his career to modernising opera. He is renowned for his experimentation with form and minimalist, abstract stage designs that allow music and poetry to unfold. As a true ambassador for the art form, he ensures that opera remains relevant today - tirelessly emphasising that opera is truely for everyone.

Ammodo has supported Pierre Audi's work through projects at Holland Festival, Dutch National Opera & Ballet, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Fesival d'Aix-en-Provence. Ammodo Docs also produced a short film about him.
