The Dutch National Opera & Ballet, housed in the Stopera on the Amstel river, is the largest opera and ballet company in the Netherlands.
The National Opera produces opera productions at top level and of international stature with a clear focus on artistic quality, diversity and innovation. The programming offers opera's from the entire history of the genre and covers a broad spectrum of artistic styles. Under the directorship of Pierre Audi, the company has grown since 1988 to become one of the most important and progressive in Europe. Since September 2018, Sophie de Lint has been head of Dutch National Opera.
The National Ballet creates, produces and presents both traditional and innovative ballet productions and is accompanied by the Ballet Orchestra led by Matthew Rowe. The company's repertoire consists of a variety of classical-romantic, neoclassical, modern and contemporary choreographies. Since 2003, the company has been directed by Ted Brandsen. Brandsen is the company's director and choreographer, and was previously a dancer with the Dutch National Ballet.
