What is our perspective on history? What do we remember, what do we forget, and what do we pass on? Visual artist Aimée Zito Lema (born 1982) explores the mechanisms of collective memory in her work. Through extensive research and the use of archival material, she questions the relationship between past and present.

Her art often addresses themes of violence and conflict. She observes, interrogates, and overlays poetic layers onto historical facts.

Ammodo supported Aimée Zito Lema’s work through her solo exhibition at the Oude Kerk in 2021. Ammodo Docs also produced a short film about her.
