De Appel is a leading art institution in Amsterdam focused on contemporary art, experimentation and reflection. Since its founding in 1975, de Appel has functioned as a platform for artists, curators and theorists, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research. Activities include exhibitions, performances, lectures and educational programs, including the renowned Curatorial Program, in which international curatorial talent is given the opportunity to develop. De Appel wants to create space for art that critically approaches complex social issues and makes them accessible. Since January 2023, de Appel has been led by artistic director Lara Khaldi and business director Sofia Patat.
