Magali Reus was born in 1981 in The Hague, Netherlands, and lives and works in London. Her sculptures are stacks of images and things – she draws from objects she finds around her and combines them into something strange and unfamiliar. While Reus is a keen observer of the physical world, she avoids using ready-made objects. Instead, every element of her sculptural work is carefully crafted using a mix of technological and traditional craft techniques. Colours, materials, textures, sizes, and shapes are all manipulated, disrupting everyday associations and inviting the viewer to question how objects can gain – or lose – meaning.
Ammodo supported the work of Magali Reus through an exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in 2016 and her solo exhibition at KM21 in 2024.
