Jonathas de Andrade (born 1982) is a visual artist from Brazil’s Nordeste region. Based in the provincial capital of Recife, the city often serves as a starting point for his installations, films, and photography. He frequently collaborates with fellow citizens and marginalised communities from his home region.
What makes De Andrade’s work unique is the playful and imaginative way he documents and critiques social injustices, such as gentrification and socio-economic marginalisation. Through his art, he brings visibility to those often overlooked by society—always with a sharp, humorous, and enigmatic style.
Ammodo supported Jonathas de Andrade through his solo exhibition in 2022 as part of Foam’s Next Level series. Ammodo Docs also produced a short film about him.
