Bimhuis is a stage for contemporary jazz music that was founded in 1974 by members of the Beroepsverenging voor Improviserende Musici (BIM), including Willem Breuker, Misha Mengelberg and Hans Dulfer. Musicians who let go of conventions and developed a new vision on metre, melody and structure: free impro. This movement, the Amsterdam Free Impro with Bimhuis at its centre, has been of great international significance and to this day is highly appreciated in the (inter)national jazz scene.
