The artist duo Suzan Boogaerdt and Bianca van der Schoot (BVDS) have been working together since graduating from the Mime Programme at the Academy of Theatre and Dance (AHK) in 1999. While their work is rooted in the Dutch mime tradition, they have developed a practice that merges multiple artistic disciplines. Recent work by Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot can be described as a synergy between performing and visual arts, blending performance with (video) installation.
They describe their work as a grey space—a twilight zone between the black box of theatre and the white cube of the gallery. This in-between space provides the contemporary human, the homo digitalis, with tools to reconnect their offline body to new (virtual, dreamlike) worlds. BVDS explore themes such as the forces that govern the human body, the nature of consciousness, and how our perception of reality is shaped.
Ammodo supported Boogaerdt and Van der Schoot through their work New Body Project.
